Can you imagine what could be funnier than this – a squirrel teasing a pet dog? Yes, believe me it was hilarious to see Rocky, my three-year old pet Boxer being teased by a small squirrel. Last week when I had been to my hometown, which is amidst the lush green forests of the Western Ghats, I saw my dog barking continuously seeing something on top of a tree. I watched carefully and saw that he was looking at a small squirrel that was making strange noises after seeing my dog. Suddenly I saw this squirrel take a small berry and throw at my dog. This made him angrier and his barks grew even louder. Seeing his barks getting louder, the squirrel again took a berry and threw at him. I took a chair and sat near the tree watching this whole event, which lasted for over an hour. In the end, Rocky was lethargic and lied down peacefully as he was defeated by the little squirrel. I could see that Rocky was ashamed as it was clearly evident in his eyes. But I had a terrific time watching Rocky and the little squirrel teasing him.

I volunteer at a local animal shelter twice a week believing that I am making a difference in the lives of the sweet, sometimes out of control animals. It has been very gratifying to interact with animals in need and I really enjoy working there. The manager of the shelter is very particular about the type of dog supplies she uses, so in addition to the satisfaction of doing a good thing there are always extra dog supplies available to the volunteers. I’ve received dog food, dog biscuits and several chew toys, which I take home and give to my dogs. Last week I went to my hometown. It is a small village adjacent to the Western Ghats in India. Away from the hectic city life, I love to spend my time in the peaceful outskirts of the city in my hometown. It is a beautiful place with rich flora and fauna. I have a beautiful house there, which is surrounded by lovely orchards that are frequently visited by rare birds that live in the dense forests of the Western Ghats. I spent my whole last week at my home, where I was awaken by the beautiful songs of birds and it was lovely to sit in my orchards and sip the refreshing morning tea. It is my dream to spend the rest of my life in my hometown so that I could enjoy the nature’s beauty and thank God for his wonderful creations. I also want to increase the awareness among people to save our last few remaining forests and its beautiful inhabitants.
